Q

Any noticeable difference between this and the upscaler versions? I know the Wii has a maximum resolution of 480p but I can't help but be curious

A
  • I was concerened about the same thing, was it going to be good enough. I can tell you I'm running it to a sixty inch TV and it works perfect. Resolution doesnt seem to be an issue at all. I would purchase it again. Arrived quick too.

Q

how do you change from 720p to 1080p

A
  • You CANNOT with this device. There is zero upscaling with this device. It's false advertising. There is no button to push to give u anything more than what the native resolution for the wii uses. I would not recommend this device to anyone.

Q

using this converter, can i connect the hdmi cable to the AV receiver (onkyo tx-nr626)?

A
  • If the receiver has an HDMI input for components then it should be fine. I have mine plugged in directly to my TV.

I purchased this adapter after I switched all the tvs/monitors in my house to new-age versions, all of which don't have the R/W/Y tri-color plug in the back. I was dismayed that I wouldn't be able to use my Wii, until I found this converter! It fits in the back of the Wii and makes it so you can use an HDMI cable to connect the Wii to a monitor or TV. I'm no technician but it was super easy to just plug and go, and there is no loss in audio or visual effects for any of the games I have played using it. 5 stars!

Hdmi Convertor Kit for Nintendo Wii 2 Hdmi with Headphone Jack - Connect Wii Console to Hdtv Screen/computer - Full Hd 1080p. This inexpensive device works exactly as advertised, right out of the box. We hooked it up in a snap. It allows my grandaughter to play her Nintendo Dance Party game with her friends (or any other Nintendo games) on our new Panasonic 47-Inch 1080p 3D Full HD IPS LED-LCD TV . It's a real riot to watch them try to dance along with the performers. Very good video quality, too!

Quick review here just in case you are on the fence with this. It works. I have only tested it on one so far and it only seemed to upscale it to 480p but that is better than nothing. Also at the very least you get to use an HDMI cable instead of component video cables. In my case the connect in my monitor had become bad for those cables so I was looking for a way to bypass it and thought I would give this a shot. Just a note though that you may need to buy a longer cable or an extension for the audio since the one included is really short.

We bought this simply because the AV port on our TV was already connected to our DVD player and we didn't want to swap cables back and forth all day. I wondered how easy this converter would be to use. The answer, of course, is 'ridiculously easy.' It worked perfectly out of the chute. Picture quality is great - at least as good as before - and it automatically adjusts to whatever video resolution it is fed. The audio jack on the back was icing on the cake. We plugged our Logitech PC speakers into it and were delighted with the results.

We have used this for light use for a while now and it is still working fine. The longest I've played any game or had this going is about 4 hours straight and while it was a little warm it wasn't alarming. I just checked after I saw the complaints from some. I'm not sure how it could get after an 8 hour marathon but keep an eye on it at least initially if that is what you need. For the casual occasional user like me the heat hasn't been an issue. The audio does come through the HDMI just fine with no need to attach to the headphone/speaker jack unless you're trying to use this with external speakers. This made it much easier to plug our Wii into our system because the only piece with RCA inputs is my Samsung TV. I couldn't run through my Samsung surround sound system at all so I had to change the input on the TV and then mute the other speakers. That was annoying. I also have 1 other thing that needs RCA inputs so I would have to go behind the TV and swap cables. This makes my life easier and lets me run my Wii through what is now the standard input on today's electronics. I can't believe Nintendo never put one of these out themselves but I'm glad someone finally did.

My Nintendo Wii only supports AV (RCA-type) connectivity to the television. So when we upgraded our TV we could not re-connect the unit because there were no such ports any more! This ingenious device plugs into the standard port at the back of the Wii unit and allows one to run an HDMI cable to the TV. I am mightily impressed that this little device cheaply fixes this connectivity oversight/problem so conveniently. I don't really notice an improvement in the picture display or audio quality per se, but that is not why this was purchased AND I can confidently report there is certainly no degradation. In summary, if you wish to connect your Wii to a TV's HDMI port, then this product is exactly what you need; I am thoroughly happy with it.

NOTE TO PEOPLE WHO HAVEN'T SEEN IMPROVED PICTURE: You MUST change the display settings from on the Wii menu from 480i to 480p to see full results! ALSO! To optimize for 1080p, you have to push in the little button while the Wii is on and the device is showing active. The tiny button is inside that hole in the bottom left of the preview image of this product. I used a paperclip. SO: To get the BEST this product offers - you have to remember to change your wii from 480i to 480p, and also if your display is 1080, press the button on the hardware itself while it's plugged in and you will immediately see an improvement in picture quality.

I had the view hd one twice before this and they both broke. I like the switch that lets you switch from 720p to 1080p a lot better then the view hd one because that is how I broke that one. This one switches perfectly and you can see a little bit of a difference nothing major. When I tried to switch with the view hd one I lost sound completely and just heard a weird buzzing noise and I noticed a part from the inside broke off. The sound from the wii menu sounds a little different but when u play a game it sounds normal. Its pretty loud too so if you want more sound this is a great option for you. No complaints so far and it does as it says it can do so I hope it stays that way.

What can I say? This is a very simple converted jack for the Wii! This thing directly attaches to the display output of the Wii and then allows the user to attach his/her own HDMI cord (male to male, this thing does NOT come with a HDMI cord). There is a button that can be pressed (using any small end) that will switch between resolutions, but I have not seen any difference. However, everytime the user shuts down his/her Wii, it will reset to the default resolution. This is no problem for me since I have no reason to change resolutions.

This works great for someone who wants to hook the Wii up to your HD TV with a HDMI cable. NOTE THIS DOES NOT CONVERT YOUR WII INTO 1080p HD. The Wii still displays 480p I believe. This device just allows one to use a HDMI cable to hook up the Wii to the TV. So if you want one just to use a HDMI cable instead of the standard cable this is for you!

I like this product because i can now use my wii in an HDMI slot instead of using rc plugs. Like the earphone plug in it, i can plug my headphones in to it while the wife sleeps. I think the only drawback is the sound sounds a little off. Kind has a feedback vibe to it. Not a big deal when into full swing zombie killing.

I bought it because I wanted to connect my sons Wii to our new TV that doesn't include any component connections and also wanted less clutter. I achieved my goal and the picture looks great! I recommend this product to whom have the same reason I did and more.

This HDMI connector for thw Wii works exactly as I had hoped. It was as simple as plugging it in to the A/V out on the back of my Wii and then connecting an HDMI cable to my TV. No other adjustments were necessary.

This little guy works great. It was easy to attach and set up. I really have no more feedback about it at all. I plugged it into the Wii, then plugged the Wii into my computer monitor, and my speakers into this device as well. No issues at all. Honestly, all I want to say is "THIS IS PERFECT AND SIMPLE",

Something is wrong with my Wii. The colors are off and there are diagonal lines dancing across the screen. This little gizmo fixed this nicely and now the picture is better than it ever was. The audio out is mono and if you plug a stereo mini plug into it you will get a continuous buzz. You'll need a mono mini plug to get the audio to work properly.
